The Monterey Peninsula Airport District Announces Selection of Executive Director

As Executive Director, La Pier will report to the five member publicly elected board with responsibility for the development, operation and administration of the airport and its services to customers. He will also lead and represent the Airport District in negotiations with local, regional and national businesses and airlines to develop opportunities for strong passenger service, aviation services and regional business operators.

La Pier will replace Tom Greer, who has been the General Manager for the Airport District since 2003. Greer announced his retirement last year. "He's been an excellent airport manager and we're sorry to see him leave," Board member Carl Miller said. "His experience and stature in the aviation industry made him ideal."

La Pier has accrued over 30 years of experience throughout his career in senior management positions at airports from Central Illinois Regional Airport to Sacramento International Airport to the international airport at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which is another convention and resort destination similar to the Monterey Peninsula. Four airports underwent new terminal construction or renovation during La Pier’s tenure. This experience has prepared La Pier to be an effective and contributory leader at the Monterey Regional Airport.

"I am honored by the selection of the Board and excited to be named the new Executive Director of Monterey Regional Airport,” said La Pier. “I look forward to working with the Board, staff, and the community to continue the strong work that Mr. Greer has accomplished to make the airport an integral part of the area and to grow its presence and contribution to the economic vitality of the community and the region."

“The Board of Directors is very fortunate that Mr. La Pier has chosen to accept this important role as Executive Director at the Monterey Regional Airport”, said Bill Sabo, current Chair of the Monterey Peninsula Airport District Board of Directors. “Mr. La Pier’s depth of industry experience combined with his recent leadership background at another airport with a significant hospitality customer base will serve all of us well in the Tri-‐County Region going forward.”

La Pier holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois, and as an Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.), La Pier has been heavily involved in numerous industry activities. He served as a member of the Small Airports Committee and U.S. Government Affairs Committee through Airports Council International -‐ North America, and was also a member of the State of South Carolina Task Force on Aerospace Development. La Pier and his wife, Pam, an elementary school teacher, enjoy traveling and spending time with their two adult sons and their wives.
