The Orange County Board of Supervisors Announces Selection of Airport Director

Rondinella is replacing Alan Murphy, who retired in February. Rondinella has been Los Angeles World Airport’s director of operations since 2010 and previously was deputy director of operations at Sacramento’s airport and airport director for Stockton Metropolitan Airport and the Santa Maria Public Airport.

“I am humbled and honored by the confidence the Orange County Board of Supervisors has placed in me with their selection,” said Rondinella. “The Board of Supervisors has been clear about its strong support of the JWA Settlement Agreement. I am committed to protecting this landmark agreement and look forward to continuing the County’s decades-old partnership with the Airport’s neighbors.”

Rondinella went on to say, “While I have served at a number of airports and been in the industry for many years, I know JWA is unique and has long been a model for airports across the country.  I am excited about the prospect of working with the CEO’s office and Airport staff to continue JWA’s tradition of excellence. One of my primary goals is to establish open and candid lines of communication. I look forward to meeting the Airport’s neighbors, tenants and community partners in the weeks ahead.”

In a news release, Todd Spitzer, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, called Rondinella “extremely qualified and collaborative.”

“It’s essential to have an airport director whose highest priorities are to protect the community and honor the (noise) curfew,” Spitzer said.

Rondinella holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Administration from California State University. He is a licensed commercial pilot, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and an accredited airport executive (A.A.E.) through the American Association of Airport Executives.

Married to wife Penny, Rondinella has two teenaged daughters and enjoys biking, running and swimming. He is actively involved in his community and church.
