ADK Completes Search for Assistant Director of Community Development for The City of North Miami Beach

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL – ADK Consulting and Executive Search, a retained consulting and search firm based in Jacksonville, Florida, assisted in the successful placement of Mitchell Austin, AICP, CNU-A as Assistant Director of Community Development for The City of North Miami Beach. In this position, he will be responsible for assisting Director Zafar Ahmed in spearheading planning, zoning, and code compliance initiatives within the vibrant community of North Miami Beach. Mr. Austin began his new role on November 4, 2024.
Mr. Austin has more than 20 years of experience in long-range land use planning, transportation planning, historic preservation, disaster recovery/redevelopment, urban design, and capital improvement project budgeting and design work in local government. Most recently, he was the Urban Design Manager for the City of Punta Gorda, Florida where he led a multi-year effort to update the city’s vision plan and completely rewrite the Land Development Regulations. This effort included significant updates to the city’s Comprehensive Plan which garnered awards from both the Florida Planning and Zoning Association (FPZA) and the American Planning Association Florida Chapter (APA FL).

Mr. Austin received a bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology College of Architecture. He went on to receive his master’s degree in Public Administration from the Florida Gulf Coast University. Mr. Austin is an Accredited Planning Professional by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and Congress for the New Urbanism Accredited (CNU-A).
