The City of Marina Appoints Matt Nelson, C.M. as Airport Manager

MARINA, CA – The City of Marina has named Matt Nelson, C.M., as Airport Manager for the Marina Municipal Airport (OAR). In this role, Mr. Nelson will be responsible for managing the services and activities of the airport, working under the direction of the Assistant City Manager. Mr. Nelson began his new position on October 3, 2022.

Mr. Nelson has worked in the aviation industry for 28 years, starting his career as a private pilot. Most recently, he was the Property Specialist for Monterey Regional Airport. He has also worked for Mojave Air & Space Port as Director of Operations and for ADK Consulting and Executive Search as Senior Project Manager.

“I am both honored and thrilled to serve as the new Airport Manager at the Marina Municipal Airport,” said Mr. Nelson. “The airport is well positioned for continued responsible growth and enhancements to its facilities and is on the cusp for some amazing opportunities that I believe will turn into reality. As a long-time Monterey County resident and pilot, I am eager to bring my experiences and skill sets to support the vision of both the city and airport. I will endeavor to strengthen communications and relations to our airport users and community.”

Mr. Nelson earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California. He is a Certified Member (C.M.) of the American Association of Airport Executives and has served as Chair and Board Member of the Monterey Peninsula Airport District.
