The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority Appoints Rob Voyles as Director of General Aviation

KNOXVILLE, TN – The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) has named Rob Voyles as Director of General Aviation. In this position, Mr. Voyles will manage the general aviation facilities and programs for the Airport Authority, including the general aviation airport, Downtown Island Airport (DKX). He will also serve as the Authority’s liaison to general aviation service providers and tenants at McGhee Tyson (TYS) Airport. He began his new position on February 13, 2023.
Mr. Voyles worked for the City of Bakersfield in California for 25 years with eight years at a senior management level. Most recently, he was the Public Works Operations Manager and Airport Manager. In that role, he managed a $120 million budget and 210 employees. In three years, he took Bakersfield Municipal Airport from a declining airport to a thriving airport with multiple new businesses.
“I am very excited to be joining the MKAA team in my new role as Director of General Aviation,” said Mr. Voyles. “DKX and TYS are beautiful airports with strong general aviation communities which I look forward to becoming a part of. I have been very active promoting aviation to the next generation of aviation enthusiasts through both the Experimental Aircraft Association and partnerships with schools and plan to continue this work as part of the MKAA team.”
Mr. Voyles received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management from Post University. He is a private pilot.
