The City of Boise Department of Aviation Appoints Elizabeth Sumner Deputy Director of Engineering and Planning

BOISE, ID – The City of Boise Department of Aviation has named Elizabeth Sumner Deputy Director of Engineering and Planning. In this role, she will be responsible for managing and administering the engineering, environmental, construction, and facilities related programs at Boise Airport (BOI). She began her new position on September 11, 2023.
Ms. Sumner joins BOI from the Idaho Air National Guard, bringing a strong background in planning and strategy, construction administration and project management, and leadership and supervision. While there, she served as Director of Mission Support, leading a 340-member cross functional customer service organization to support 21 combat aircraft worth $390M and flying 3500 hours annually. She also oversaw the development of the first Gowen Field Master Plan, programmed $50M in projects to improve existing facilities and relocated flying and maintenance operations to East End. Previously, Ms. Sumner held the titles of Director of Civil Engineering and Chief of Staff.

Ms. Sumner received her bachelor’s degree in Engineering Sciences, Aeronautics from the US Air Force Academy. She went on to earn her master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Ceramics from the University of Illinois. She received her Project Management Professional certification through the Project Management Institute.
