Craig Simon Named Assistant Director of Aviation – Operations by the Port of Oakland

OAKLAND, CA – The Port of Oakland has named Craig Simon as Assistant Director of Aviation – Operations for the Oakland International Airport (OAK). Mr. Simon has been serving as the interim Assistant Director since February 2020 and will assume his new position October 17.

With the exceptional staff, we will be able to continue to build upon the outstanding work that has already occurred and continue to grow OAK into the future.”
Mr. Simon has worked for OAK for the past eight years, serving as Airport Operations Superintendent, Airside and Aviation Facilities Maintenance Manager before he was promoted to his current role. As Assistant Director of Aviation – Operations, Mr. Simon is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of OAK. In addition, he will direct the inspection of airport facilities for proper maintenance, compliance with established safety requirements, and needed repairs and improvements; ensure safe, effective and efficient airport operations; assist the Airport Director with long and short-range planning; and represent the Port and Airport to stakeholders and interested groups.
Prior to joining OAK, Mr. Simon worked for Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport for 11 years. He held multiple positions where he managed airside activities, airport operations, noise abatement, ground transportation, and parking control.
Mr. Simon earned his bachelor’s degree in Aviation Operations and Aviation Maintenance Management from the San Jose State University. He is also an instrument-rated private pilot and an Airport Certified Employee (ACE) in Airfield Operations through the American Association of Airport Executives.
